Happy Valentine's day! As my gift to you, I've made you drones! I am sure that at some point I have asked all of you wether or not you own a metronome/tuner with a drone. Good news, if you don't, I have made my own drones as AAC files that you can use with iTunes. Download them here. Now you have no excuse!!! Mwahahahahahahaaa...

As of yesterday, I am finished with school! Many thanks to all the people who supported me in my studies and personal life; I could not have done it without you. I'll be putting up videos of my master's recital in the Audio/Video section. Many thanks to Alan Pinon who recorded it!

I couldn't resist putting this up here. If you want a lesson in fake showmanship and rhythmic rushing, here you are:

I saw this video and was completely amazed! Believe it or not, us violinists/violists can learn a lot from this video. If you observe the performer's right hand, you will notice how fluid and relaxed it is. He maintains a basic shape to his right hand at all times, and simply moves it up and down the accordion. His fingers are the ones doing the work, and you can see that he moves them from the base knuckles. Violinists' left hands should be the same! We need to move our arms up and down the fingerboard keeping a consistent shape to our left hand, and dropping our fingers from the base joint. This is what enables us to play fast and accurately! Enjoy!

There are a few upcoming concerts that I would like to encourage you to attend:

If you enjoy hearing orchestras play, the Flint Symphony will be having a concert on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 8:30 PM (I'll be there!)  We will be playing Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture.  If you've never heard this, you should! It is full of beautiful, distinctly Tchaikovsky melodies.  Also on the program is Kopetzki's Marimba Concerto and Beethoven's famous Symphony No. 5.
                        For tickets, visit http://thewhiting.com/tickets/production.aspx?performanceNumber=2848

For all of my students, I would like to make you aware of a local organization called the University Musical Society  which holds wonderful concerts here in Ann Arbor.   Its website: http://www.ums.org

For parents, please visit http://www.ums.org/s_current_season/family_friendly_opportunities.asp   to see a list of upcoming UMS concerts and to find out more about the Classical Kids Club.  It offers you the opportunity to buy up to two kids’ (ages 5-14) tickets for $10 each with the purchase of an adult ticket for $20.

For my teen students, please visit http://www.ums.org/s_education_community/teen_programs.asp  to find out more about high school student rush (discounted) tickets.

I hope to see you all enjoying concerts and supporting our local arts organizations!

From the Ann Arbor Federation of Musicians:

You can use this easy link from Americans for the Arts to write to your Senators asking them to support the increase in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts which was passed by the House of Representatives. It takes less than two minutes to send a message of advocacy.
